Large-scaling quantum computing with the XZZX surface code

The XZZX surface code is known to have a high threshold for protecting quantum information against biased noise, but there's still a lot about the XZZX surface code we don't understand. What are the optimal strategies for performing gates on encoded qubits? What are the optimal strategies for magic state injection? And how many physical qubits will we need to protect information long enough to run practical quantum algorithms?
